RIP to my DJI Mavic Air 2 :(
I recently went out with some fellow drone friends to hit the Baltimore Inner Harbor and get some photo/video content, and it did not disappoint. Between unseasonably warm temperatures, beautiful sights, and a great sunset, we sure did luck out on this one. this also would be my last flight with the Mavic Air 2 as I shortly thereafter picked up a new DJI Mini 3 Pro! I’m super excited to create some future content with that! Please check the video out above for some great footage.

IPHONE 13 PRO and my thoughts on it for photo/video.
Iphone 13 Pro
Ah yes, long time no see.
It’s been a busy year but I’m happy that this one is my most successful yet. A lot of new things have been learned this year, and a lot of new equipment has been bought as a result. One of the major new tech investments I have bought has been the new iPhone 13 Pro. I had not been considering getting a new iPhone anytime soon, but after stumbling upon some Youtube videos and learning a bit about its new camera features, I decided to pick one up. Lets just say…. I AM NOT DISSAPOINTED.
This thing is a beast. Plan and simple.…
Clocking in with 3 total cameras, you can achieve almost all needed focal lengths in everyday situations. All at 12mp, the wide has a focal length at 13mm, the main camera at 26mm, and the telephoto at 77mm. Although having the wide angle and telephoto is nice, there is a significant drop off in quality in these two cameras in my opinion, however, outdoors in daylight, are still very useable. I find myself utilizing the telephoto much more than the wide angle personally. Add in the new iPhone ProRaw feature, which basically turns your photos into a 12 bit DNG, and you can truly capture a lot with this phone.
Shot with the iPhone’s telephoto lens using ProRaw and edited via Adobe Lightroom. As you can see the phone was able to handle the color grading due to being a 12 bit DNG but is still a bit soft. (Baltimore, MD.)
Cinematic Mode
Out of all the new camera specs and features this may be the most talked about one. Cinematic mode is basically “Portrait Mode” for photos, but now adding that depth of field (blurry background), to video, giving it a cinematic feel. Cinematic mode is not a true depth of field, meaning the lens aperture is actually not changing it and giving it depth of field, but instead, AI is blurring out the background. This has massive drawbacks but also allows you to literally change how out of focus you want the background even after you take the photo because the AI just goes in and modifies it. While it is a great feature, it is still very beta(ish) and has massive struggles with things like hair as well as tree leaves, crowds, or anything with a lot going on and depth.
As you can see, there is a lot to be excited about with cinematic mode, however, the AI is far from perfect and has some weird blur going on in very busy areas of the image. The focus transition from the leaves to the buildings has a very slow cinematic feel and does really well.
In conclusion…
I didn’t want to go to in depth here, just touch on some major points of interest for me. This iPhone is very much impressive. The three big reasons for me being, the three lenses and their functionality, the ProRaw ability, and the new Cinematic Mode. All with flaws, but very promising and worth the investment in my opinion. Apple has been my go to tech company for some amount of years now and they continue to deliver. Both inside with new features, and outside with its sleek, clean looking tech.
Here is a recent set from Baltimore I captured using the iPhone 13 Pro….
